Ginny Ring Cottage is ideally located for the history lover wanting to explore the lands of Owain Glyndwr with Chirk, Rhuddlan, Denbigh, Caernarfon, Harlech, Conwy and Penrhyn Castles all within one to two hours journey. Or visit some of the local Iron Age hill forts such as Caer Drewyn at nearby Corwen or along Offa’s Dyke.

Caer Eini Hill fort and megalithic Kerb Circle and Ring Cairn are just a short walk from the cottage.

For the railway enthusiasts, the famous Llangollen Steam Railway is a sight not to be missed. The line & stations have been restored from Llangollen to Carrog and veteran trains and rolling stock run frequently every day. Work continues to extend the line to Corwen. For children, Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends are frequent and popular visitors to Llangollen & Santa Specials run throughout December.

Railway fans will also be delighted to explore the nearby narrow gauge railways of Talyllyn, Llanberis Lake, Holyhead Breakwater, Welsh Highland and Snowdon Mountain Railway. Betws –Y- Coed also houses a railway exhibition and miniature railway close to the mainline station.

Cycling is well catered for and a range of cycles (and bike carriers) are available for hire to explore the surrounding quiet lanes and tracks.

For the serious ruff stuff cyclist, there are trails for various abilities at nearby Coed y Brenin, Llandegla Forest and the Wayfarers.

Tranquil and picturesque family rides are recommended around Lake Vyrnwy, which is only a short drive away through the spectacular Tanat Valley, or a delightful 13 mile ride around the Llyn Brenig reservoir.

Secure storage facilities or workshop access and tools are available for cycles or motorcycles as necessary.

Trout & Salmon Fishing is available at nearby Llandegla and Cerrigydrudion or you can try your luck in the local rivers Afon Ceirw and River Dee with fishing permits available from Corwen. Maerdy is home to the famous Salmon & Freshwater Pearl Mussel Hatchery.

Ewe-Phoria Sheep Dog Centre is only five miles from the cottage with exhibitions by International Sheep Dog Trials Champion Aled Owen.

Fancy a day at the seaside? Barmouth or Llandudno are only 45 minutes drive away and feature spectacular sandy beaches and traditional bustling Victorian styled seaside fun.

Barmouth also boasts the stunning Mawddach Estuary with its variety of wading & seaside birds, beautiful views and safe walking or cycling along the Mawddach Trail (site of the pre-Beeching railway line) from Dolgellau – Barmouth.

Llandudno has elegant Victorian hotels and promenade, large shopping centre, theatres, dry ski slope & the imposing Great Orme well worth a visit on foot or by tramway, which has delighted visitors since 1902.

There is so much to see and do all year round, but the jewel in the crown must be the breathtaking natural beauty of Snowdonia itself with its mountains, hills, valleys & craggy coastlines & clean safe beaches.
